Design that helps turn good intentions into lasting habits.
BookTrust is the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, helping families and children discover the lasting benefits that reading together can bring to children of all ages and backgrounds.
This project focused on creating materials designed to support positive reading habits in a way that feels approachable, useful and straightforward to engage with.
The Aim
The project covered the Bookstart Toddler and Bookstart Pre-schooler/Nursery packs, Create a set of early reading packs that encourage families and young children to enjoy books together, helping shared reading become part of everyday life from an early age.
Delivered through health visitors, family hubs and nurseries, the packs were designed to support parents, carers and early-years professionals in a way that works naturally across different environments and experiences.
What Needed Solving
The project covered the Bookstart Toddler and Bookstart Pre-schooler/Nursery packs — early reading resources designed for children aged 1–2 and 3–4.
Each pack combined books, activities and supporting materials designed to encourage shared reading and storytelling in a way that feels natural, engaging and easy to continue. It was also important that the pack be sustainably produced, and something that felt ‘keepable’, something to be retained, and not disposable.
The approach focused on warmth, clarity and usability, with themed mascots and iconography tailored to each age group. Additional online support was carefully signposted alongside curated books that gave families an immediate and engaging place to begin.
What I Did
Worked across a range of complementary packaging, refining structure and content presentation to simplify how information is received, create clearer understanding and shape the material so it feels natural to navigate and use.
Result
A set of materials designed to support shared reading, encourage continued engagement and help build lasting reading habits over time.
What Clients Get from Me
